Genesis of the Institute

Our Beginning

Nagamia Institute of Islamic Medicine and Science (NIIMS) was originally founded as the International Institute of Islamic Medicine (IIIM).

The Islamic Medical Association of North America (IMANA) mandated the formation of IIIM at an extraordinary Council meeting of its Executive in Orlando, Florida, in 1992.

In 2019, this work evolved into the Nagamia Institute of Islamic Medicine and Science (NIIMS), an independent institution dedicated to preserving and promoting the history of Islamic medicine and science. Today, NIIMS is home to a growing library, museum collections, and a vibrant programme of webinars, field trips, and educational events, continuing the vision established by our founder, Dr. Husain Nagamia.
